Sunday School

Sunday School at Quaker Memorial is an exciting and growing ministry of the church. Each Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 there are classes offered for all ages, from nursery right on up to adults.

Toddlers & 3’s - Kindergarten

Our children use a series of books telling familiar Bible stories each week.

Grades 1st – 8th

This group of students use the PC(USA) quarterly curriculum “We Believe.” It focuses on the stories of our faith and the seasons of the church year. The children are broken into two groups: Elementary and Tweens.

Adults

Adults can choose from among two exciting and diverse classes:

The Fellowship Class meets in the Fellowship Hall. This lecture and discussion class is using The Present Word as their chosen curriculum – based on the Uniform Bible lessons. The class holds occasional fellowship gatherings, and also contributes to local benevolences.

The Moseley Chapel Class meets downstairs in Room 4. They use an open discussion format and members of the class facilitate in leadership of the lessons. They follow the lectionary in their study and discussion.

Youth Groups

We offer three youth groups for those young people in Grades 3 through 12. On most Sunday evenings during the school year the youth meet at the church to participate in such activities as Fellowship, Supper, and Choir or Handbells.

The Youth are divided into three groups for most of their fellowship activities. The youngest group, called “We’re B.I.G.”, is for youth in Grades 3, 4, & 5. They are led by Laura Jones.

The Junior High group is for Grades 6, 7, & 8. They are led by Skip Wodke and Amanda Epperson.

The Senior High group is for Grades 9 through 12. They are led by Liz Huband, Susie Hubbard, Alex Haney, and Michael Jacob.

All groups do a variety of activities throughout the year including group discussions, missions for our church as well as outside the church, worship and fellowship. These weekly gatherings are designed to nurture individuals in their emotional, social, and spiritual growth. They do not meet during the summer months.

Children’s Worship Time

During the school year children age 4 through grade 2 participate in their own worship experience during the 10:00 service here at Quaker Memorial. Each Sunday morning, after the Time with Children, this age-group leaves the Sanctuary for a worship service of their very own.

The focus of this program is for children to learn how to worship God in a respectful manner, but in their own way.

Vacation Bible School

Quaker Memorial is proud to have this annual event open to all children from age 3 through Grade 5.  This has become one of the most popular events of the year.  In recent times, the event has been offered in the evenings during a week in June or July. The music staff of the church has joined with the educational department to present some creative fun activities and programs for all. Youth members help wherever needed.  Each year people eagerly look forward to participating in this exciting event!

Advent Workshop

Another popular event at Quaker Memorial is our Advent Workshop. Although the details of the event change from year to year, the purpose remains the same: we gather together as a church family to prepare our church building and ourselves for the Christmas season. Decorating windows, trimming trees, making crafts, singing songs, and making wreaths are but a few of the activities occurring during this special fellowship time. The evening is often topped off with a dinner.

Confirmation Class

Each year, the church provides a series of lessons for those young people wishing to join the church. This opportunity is structured for eighth graders, but is also open to other youth. The classes cover such subjects as belonging to God, who is Jesus, the history and structure of the church, the Sacraments, stewardship of time and talents, and the importance of Bible study and worship. To enroll your child in this class leading to membership in the church call the church office.

Library

Our church library, comprising the Ann Robertson Leslie Memorial Collection, is located in the Library on the main floor near the Sanctuary. This growing ministry has come a long way in the last few years. From its modest origins in a single small bookcase, our library can now boast a nice collection of traditional and religious books for your study and enjoyment, including some reference material for deeper study. It also offers selections for children.

Opportunities to Serve

There are many ways for you to help with exciting ministries. You can volunteer to teach in a Sunday School class or be a substitute teacher, assist with Bible School, help younger children with their crafts, support the youth groups by providing supper or transportation, assist the Librarian, decorate for Advent or serve on a committee.

Please consider where your particular gifts and talents can be put to use in serving others through the Christian Education Ministry.

Safe Church Guidelines

All of our volunteers who work with youth or children complete an annual training in accordance with our Safe Church Guidelines adopted by the Session in June, 2008.

Background checks are completed for all of our youth leaders.

A complete list of the Safe Church Guidelines is available in the Church office.
